A lot of character to paint.

“Now That’s Longs Peak”

Longs Peak Mountain oil painting in Estes Park, Colorado24×30 oil painting 1.5″ deep museum wrap $2500

The title came from one of my favorite Lakota Sioux artist friends. It was quite a dynamic scene to see coming out of the Glen Haven road driving down into Estes Park.

Rainy Day in Estes

rainy-day-pleinair-2009-web.jpgEn plein air oil painting $400

I got soaked for a few hours but it was quite an experience. It has a refreshingly feeling for a quite environment in a den or bedroom. Fun

Roaring River at the Alluvial Fan

roaring-river-at-alluvial-f.jpg30×40 oil painting. $2200

This painting was done a few years after the Lawn Lake flood and shows little plant growth because of the scouring effect of the flood. It has been interesting to document scenes like this at different times in watercolor and in oil.

Quiet Time on Fall River

quiet-time-09-web.jpg22×28 oil painting in a black frame with a black linen liner. $1800

This is the largest of the Quiet Time painting series so far. One of the few paintings where it shines in subdued light.

Clear day on Longs Peak

longs-peak-sun-web.jpg16×20 oil painting. $650

This is a  more gentle painting, strong in a quiet way.

At the foot of Little Falls in Yellowstone

little-falls-yellowstone-we.jpg11×14 oil painting in nice simple frame. $400

I think I can feel the cool mist and rich growth at the bottom area of the falls. I felt serenely comfortable there.

First Snow

first-snow-web.jpg30×40 oil painting in high quality “Colorado Framesmith” gold frame  $2100

That overlap in time when the beautiful bold color of the Aspen is enchanced by the clean crispness of the snow.

Fall River below Sundance Mountain

fall-river-glacier-country.jpg16×20 oil painting in rustic wood frame $800

I have painted this scene in many ways to explore and discover the beauty in the complexity of the mountains. I like this one because in its expressionistic looseness it directed me to do the large more realistic documentation of the wilderness scene with all its anomalies and geological remnants which reflect its growth.
